Legal Cafe for Artists and Art Workers
Description

Sunday, April 19, 10AM–Noon
FCCW: 3053 Rosslyn St. LA, CA 90065
Max participants: 30
Free
Meet with attorneys Andrew Freire, Immigrant Defenders Law Center, and Alex Glancy, Impact Matters Law LLP, and your fellow artists for a legal cafe session -- a casual, information-rich discussion covering a range of legal issues for artists. A short introduction will be followed by circle conversations on topics such as artist contracts, business entities and nonprofits, public art work issues, and immigration options for artists living and working in Los Angeles County. Artist's legal circle is a chance to come together and learn about our relationship to the law, share information and resources.
A note from Andrew and Alex:
We’re excited to meet up in-person and talk about a range of legal issues that we work on as art lawyers. We hope that the artist's legal circle will provide more legal information to creative people in our community. We look forward to hearing from you beforehand to prepare for your legal quandaries and/or as a drop in with questions. Please feel free to get in touch with FCCW about anything beforehand.
We need to include this small, but important disclaimer — we hope to support you on your journey and with your relationship navigating legal questions as artists. During the event, we won’t offer personalized legal advice but we can discuss information to help guide you through legal questions, with plenty of opportunity for Q&A. You could consider us your “legal co-adventurers,” as we hold space for brainstorming, ideas, and resource sharing in a group setting. While we can’t commit to ongoing legal support, we’ll do our best to make the most of our time together, and we’ll provide some follow-up support if we have capacity. Credit goes to Sustainable Economies Law Center for some of the language to articulate this approach.
