Have a project that just needs polishing for distribution, but don’t know where to start? This workshop will offer insights into the practical and philosophical fundamentals of mixing. Learn to use essential tools such as EQ, Compression, Reverb and Delay and how they are utilized in mixing a finished product. Primary examples will be showcased through Ableton and ProTools, but can be applied in any DAW. The workshop will include a slide discussion about mixing, a co-working activity mixing a multi-track of your own, and an open-discussion / Q&A with the organizers.
We encourage people who have their own sessions to bring your computer, headphones + DAW so you can mix your own song during the later half of the workshop, with guidance from the facilitators.
This Mixing Workshop is hosted by production duo, DOUBLEDATE, and is a beginner-friendly, DIY approach to mixing.
DOUBLEDATE is a producing and engineering duo based in Los Angeles. As cultural workers from an oppressed class, they seek to increase access to professional audio services for marginalized artists. BIPOC, disabled, and queer led projects are prioritized, and profit is not the driving force behind operations. DD8 hopes to manifest a radically rebuilt music industry by working as if that future is already here.
Feminist Synth Lab prioritizes all marginalized genders, including but not limited to trans women, cis women, trans men, non-binary, intersex, gender nonconforming, two-spirit and questioning folx. We ask that our cis male allies and friends respectfully do not sign up for programs, as we recognize that electronic music is overwhelmingly dominated by cis men.
